My co-worker Joe came across an article titled, “This is the Most Popular Grilled Cheese in NYC, According to UberEATS Data.” In an instant we decided we wanted to check it out after the show. Yesterday was National Grilled cheese day!
It’s a spot called “The cheese grille.” It’s in the lower east side, on Allen street. As soon as we got off the subway it started to downpour. We got to The cheese grill early and the owner Emic was kind enough to let us in a little early.
We heard the buffalo chicken grilled cheese was the best in NYC. We ordered it and they fired up the grill. While we waited for the food Emic said we had to try their homemade sangria. They make it with Pinot Grigio, cucumber and basil. It was soooo refreshing. We had seconds.
I was surprised to see that they had a full bar as well. They have all the good stuff. Cider, Rose and craft beer.
Check out all these different ways you can have grilled cheese.
Emic said he worked with Tia Keenan. She’s an expert in the cheese department. She has many books out about her expertise.
The fried Mac & Cheese was heavenly!
Please excuse my frizzy hair! I didn’t have my umbrella. LOL.
Here’s the grilled cheese in all it’s glory!
CRISPY GOAT: Chevre, Goat Gouda, Applewood Bacon, Avocado On Multigrain.
BUFFALO CHICKEN GRILLED CHEESE: Cheddar, Breaded Chicken, Pickled Jalapenos, Bleu Cheese Dressing and Franks Red Hot on Levain Pullman
This is my co-worker Joe!
I mean what’s grilled cheese on a rainy day without some tomato soup.
Emic was the epitome of an entrepreneur. He did a lot of market research before settling on a menu and name for his spot. He even trademarked “The Cheese Grill.” He was so welcoming and open to talking with us. He seemed like the kind of guy that dreams big and makes things happen. One amazing takeaway is that they are open until 3am on Friday & Saturday! Ahhh imagine a warm cheesy grilled cheese after some drinks and dancing. It’d definitely prevent a hangover.
