A Tavola in New Paltz is one of our favorite date night spots!
It’s equal parts romantic, rustic and upbeat. We always sit at the bar because it’s cozy and we’re social people. We love the village of New Paltz. In the summer it’s great to take a stroll before dinner. This particular night it was freezing. I wasn’t planning on blogging about it but realized it’s a great place to share.
They have one of the best and most unique cocktail menus in the Hudson Valley!
I decided to be adventurous and try a cocktail with scotch. The bartender asked if I normally drink scotch. Which I realized I hadn’t ever tried a scotch cocktail before.
He explained that this particular scotch is distilled with peat. It definitely had the smokiness of the peat but it was damn good.
The Scotch Sling:
Laphroaig 10 year
Lime leaf syrup
Fresh grated cinnamon
Their bread is the BOMB!! I had to sit there and watch Sean eat it because I gave up bread for lent. Torture. This is the only place I’ve been where the bread is steaming hot when you pull it apart.
Since I can’t eat bread I had to get cheese. Most of their ingredients are local. The Hudson Valley has some of the best cheeses in the world. (In my opinion)
The cheese plate came with homemade fig jam, cashew butter and crackers.
The cheeses :

-Toussaint & Margie from https://sproutcreekfarm.org/
They had a ricotta crostini on the special menu. Ahhhhhh it was so good. The potatoes had arugula and a mustard sauce. I just scooped the ricotta off the bread. Still amazing.
Sweet potato & ricotta gnocchi:
Wild boar ragu, local apple, shaved bittersweet chocolate and pecorino. It was sweet and savory. I finished every last bite.
Branzino Alla Griglia:
Grilled branzino filet, butter poached fingerling potato, sundried tomato, fresh herbs and fried leeks.
For dessert we had the dark chocolate and vanilla gelato. I of course had an old-fashioned. It was perfection.
I didn’t take the best pictures because I took them on my phone. The room is dimly lit which sets the romantic tone. Not great for unexpected photography.
Make A Tavola your next date night stop. I promise you’ll love every bit.
